Track tyre dumpers: call

UP TO 300 tyres have been illegally dumped at Lang Lang.
The tyres were recently discovered in the Lang Lang Bush Reserve, which incorporates the town’s rifle club and a dog coursing club.
The reserve is about three kilometres southeast of Lang Lang township along McDonalds Track.
Environmental Protection Authority officials are investigating the dumping, believed to have happened within the past fortnight.
“Markings on the tyres indicate that they most likely originate from a tyre repair shop or tyre seller,” EPA regional manager George Tsivoulidis said.
“We are currently working with Parks Victoria and Victoria Police to find who dumped the tyres and we will take action against those responsible.”
The incident follows a similar dumping of tyres in Bunyip State Park last year.
Mr Tsivoulidis said dumping of tyres was unacceptable.
“They are unsightly and pose a fire risk in rural areas,” he said.
“Tyres can be recycled and there are well established businesses that remove and responsibly manage tyres for disposal or recycling.”
The EPA is seeking assistance from anyone who may have seen a vehicle or vehicles carrying a large quantity of tyres in or around the bushland reserve or from people or businesses who may have had tyres removed in the last month and suspect they haven’t been disposed of correctly.
“The EPA relies heavily on the community to assist with such investigations and is hopeful that with some assistance we can assure that those that are treating the area as a waste dump are held accountable,” Mr Tsivoulidis said.
