Wickers wilt in wind

BERWICK Football Club’s senior team fought hard against a strong Hampton Park, failing to fully capitalise on the wind and going down by 37 points on Saturday.
The Wickers worked hard in the strong windy conditions kicking against the breeze.
Chris Kickett goaled from a strong tackle in the goal square, while spearhead Donaldson missed two golden opportunities that would have seen the Wickers in a better position at quarter time.
Onballers Molineux, Maclean and Mizzi were working well under the packs and Joustra was dominating the ruck.
The first five minutes of the second quarter was a seesawing affair with Donaldson finally goaling. Matt McGauran was going in hard and putting his body on the line.
Hampton Park to its credit kicked four goals against the wind to go in with a handy lead at half time.
Hampton Park peppered the goals in the third quarter, but failed to put Berwick away.
Michael Hanigan kicked a good goal after roving a pack, while Gorozidis added another and Kirk Betts was playing well.
The quarter ended with three goals a piece and Berwick still a chance in the final quarter, kicking with the breeze, however Hampton Park worked hard in the last quarter to match the Wickers goal for goal and run out worthy winners.
Scores: Berwick 10.10.70 lost to Hampton Park 16.11.107.
Goals Berwick: Donaldson 3, Gorozidis 2, Hanigan, D. Van Diemen, A. Betts, C. Kickett, A. Tuck, 1.
Best: Miles, K. Betts, D. Van Diemen, M. Hanigan, M. McGauran and T. Joustra.
