Rangers put clamp on Bunyip bikes

A BIKE blitz is under way at Bunyip State Park.
The aim is to minimise illegal trail bike riding and fourwheeldrive activity on recently closed tracks and to educate riders on where they can legally unload and ride their bikes.
The recently released Bunyip Recreation Framework requires gates to be installed on some tracks and trails in the southern area of the park that have been closed to motorised vehicles.
Parks Victoria chief ranger Craig Bray said trail bike and 4WD activities have allocated areas north of Black Snake Creek Road.
“Most riders are doing the right thing and sticking to the tracks and trails that have been set aside within the Bunyip State Park for legitimate trail bike and fourwheeldrive use,” he said.
“However, some insist on accessing prohibited areas of the park which causes environmental degradation and noise.”
More than 500 riders have been intercepted by rangers so far.
Parks Victoria officials said there appear to be few breaches on closed tracks, but park rangers treat such offences seriously and will continue with a blitz in the park.
“Offenders are liable to incur penalties if caught,” Mr Bray said.
