Anthony on par at Pakenham

RAIN may have slowed the fairways, but this didn’t stop Anthony Colvin winning the par competition with a fine plussix at Pakenham Golf Club on Saturday.
Mick Boyd came in with plusthree to win A grade and Marc Merigan was the Cgrade winner with plusone. The C.C.R. was 70.
Downtheline winners were Ivan Katta plusfour, Steve Chapman plusfour, Paul Hobson plusthree, Ronald James plusthree, Ken Briggs, Hugh Westmorland, Nik Hock, Fergus O’Gallagher, Barry Williams, Clint Sezney, Robert Cronjaeger all plustwo and Don Towan, Phil Tunstall, Travis Wheeler, Patrick Farrell, Gary Westwick, Wayne Lamers, Andrew Trivett, Brian Delaney, Glen Easto, Martin Spurway, George Savkov and Mick McManus all plusone.
Ivan Katta and Brian Delaney had birdies on the fifth hole.
Nearest the pin on the golf shop second hole went to Frank Morris with Ivan Katta taking out the Pakenham Subway fifth hole.
The Dante’s Woodfired Pizza eighth hole was won by John Roberts and the Hungry Jack’s 14th went to Ray Hewitt.
The Pakenham Pizza 16th hole went to Geoff Porter and George Coffey was the winner of the B.M.R. Autos second shot on the sixth hole.
Paul Hobson had an eagle on the 18th to take out the Spalding’s Eagles Nest of two balls.
The B.M.R. Autos longest drive (A grade) saw Rob Sandiford the winner with Ivan Katta taking out B grade.
The McIntyre Painting Cgrade longest drive went to Ken Whittaker.
Raffle winners were Andrew Trivett and Oswald Van Brabant

COMING EVENTS

This week is the Easter Cup, sponsored by Max Craig, being played over three rounds with the best two counting.
Members can play just one round as usual, but if they wish to play on two or three days (Saturday/Sunday/Monday) scores will be collated and they will automatically be in the Easter Cup.
The following week is stroke and then Stableford will be played on 29 April – this will include the twilight winners final.
Those who have been a winner of the twilight competition over the summer are asked to make sure their names are down for this Saturday to be eligible.
The men’s club championships, sponsored by Rawdon Hill Management and Constructions, will be played in May this year (not December) as in previous years.
The first round is on Saturday, 6 May.

RAFFLE WINNERS

Bob Muddyman was the winner of the set of tyres and Pakenham Tyrepower was thanked for its support of the raffle.
Mirjana c/o Tom Ribic was the winner of the barbecue kettle, Kay Jones won the Ronson deep fryer donated by South Eastern Remote Controls and fourth prize of a voucher to the Jade Princess at Beaconsfield was won by Marcus Daniel.

TRIP TO TOCUMWAL

Fortytwo members, friends and family attended this year’s trip, with 34 golfers enjoying the beautifully manicured courses at Tocumwal.
Once again the weather was kind and all had a wonderful weekend of golf, pokies, food, wine and fun.
As a result of generous trophy donors and kind hosts, a small profit was made for the club.
Donors were: Matt Boon, Marg Blake and Bruce Ritchie, Kay and Les Jones, Gwen Milnes, Joan and Harold Walklate, Alex Green and Rob and Chris Nobelius.
Kathy and Owen Bruton of Adams St Lodges, where the majority of members stayed were thanked for their hospitality.

At the completion of presentations on Sunday the members presented gifts to Jean and David Hoare, who as organisers of the trip for many years, have announced they will no longer be able to do so, due to travel plans.
Rob Morley has offered to organise the trip from now on.
MONDAY RESULTS

This attracted 51 players for a Par round and Brett Hume was the winner with pluseight. Peter Wigney and John Roberts also had excellent scores of plusfive.
Down the lines went to Stuart Hare plusfour, Michael Davey plusthree, Vilie Koroknai plusthree and Robert Walker, Heath Barclay, Al Campbell, all plustwo.
Nearest the pin on the eighth went to Stuart Hare and the 14th to Michael Davey.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

The morning competition was stroke and Joe Brennan came in with a 64 to win from Don Mooney with 66.
Tony Vallance and Norm Coley both recorded a score of 68 to be the next best, followed by Nik Hock 69, Stan Gilbert 71, Denby Coggan 72, Bert Burniston 72, Jon Roberts 72, Ronald Horne 72, Alan Halleur 73, Ray Shalders 73 and Rex Jobling 73.
Bob Morrison was the winner of the nearest the pin on the second hole and the 14th went to Glenn Foote.

SUNDAY RESULTS

The morning winner was Jenny Bennett with 38 – a winner for the second week in a row.
Neil Mani was the runnerup with 37 points.

LADIES

On Monday, 3 April the Pakenham ladies started their pennant with Women’s’ Golf West Gippsland for 2006.
Division two had a win against Warragul 6/1 and Division four had a close match against Traralgon, losing 2/3.

CAPTAIN’S KNOCKOUT

On Thursday, 6 April under cloudy skies and threatening weather Pakenham ladies were able to complete the captain’s knockout third round, resulting in Marg Andrews defeating Maria Warburton and Lyn Murray defeating Marjorie Dean.
Later in the day Lyn Murray and Marg Andrews played in the final with the winner being Marg Andrews.
The overflow played Irish fourball with Toni Owen, Kath Duggan and Kate Linden the winners with 71 on a countback.
Nearest the pin on the eighth went to Bev Kerslake and the 14th to Judy Horne.
Next Thursday (13 April) is the monthly medal.

SATURDAY LADIES

Matchplay saw Liz Garvey defeat June McCardel oneup and Viki Maxwell defeat Maria Warburton twoup. Liz will play Viki in the final on Saturday, 22 April.
The overflow played par with the winner being Marjorie Dean with square. Jillian White was the downtheline winner with minusone and the nearest the pin second shot on the 16th was also won by Jillian.
The Saturday ladies welcomed new player Julie Walker.
