Man charged with meat heist

PAKENHAM police charged a Nilma man with burglary and theft last Friday in relation to a $80,000 meat heist at a Kooweerup abattoir in July.
The Gazette reported last month that a refrigerated truck parked outside the Kooweerup Abattoirs and Wholesale Butchers was stolen on Sunday, 30 July.
The truck was recovered by police after it was found in Frankston South a few days after the raid.
Abattoir owner Roger Gwynne said at the time he was devastated with the raid on his property and with the meat being stolen.
“We have had the business for three years and it has put me and my business partner under a lot of pressure.
“I’m pretty cut up about it all at the moment,” Mr Gwynne said.
The 29yearold accused man has been charged with theft of the meat and the truck.
He did not apply for bail.
He has been remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.
