Shower yourself with savings

THE City of Casey, in partnership with South East Water, is helping residents save water and money with a free showerhead exchange.
It runs from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, 3 February at the Civic Centre lawn area, next to the car park at Magid Drive, Narre Warren.
City of Casey mayor Colin Butler is encouraging the community to get on board the South East Water Showerhead Exchange Program,
“We all know it has never been more important to save water, so getting a new threestar showerhead, valued at $65, for your old one is a great deal for residents,” he said.
Water experts will also be on hand on the day to answer questions about grey water and rainwater tanks.”
It is estimated that by using a water efficient showerhead households can reduce water and energy bills by as much as $60 and save up to 20,000 litres a year.
This pilot program is one of a series of innovative programs being developed by South East Water to encourage communities to learn more about water conservation, and save water in their homes, workplaces and schools.
With about 30 per cent of all household water used in the bathroom, the shower is a great place to focus watersaving efforts.
This is part of a Victorian Government initiative to swap 18,000 showerheads across the state over the next three years.
South East Water’s managing director, Dennis Cavagna, said that after significant reductions in water use in the garden, it was time to focus on saving water inside the home.
“With Stage 3 water restrictions in place we need to be extremely mindful of how we use water in and around the home,” he said.
Residents will need to bring their old showerhead and a recent South East Water Bill to the exchange event.
Renters or tenants will need signed written permission from the property owner.
