Longwarry pair aim at Trotters’ Derby

TWO Longwarry horses could be aimed at July’s rich Victorian Trotters’ Derby series after impressive recent efforts.
Ronerail and Coruscating are both in good form at the right time, with the rich series starting at Cranbourne on 8 July.
Coruscating, trained by Lee Evison, ran a good race to finish fourth at Maryborough last Friday. The youngster has recorded three wins and three placings from only 10 starts.
Ronerail scored a strong victory at Maryborough and shapes as a definite derby contender on his recent form.
The Michael Hughestrained trotter took on mostly older horses last week, though the secondplaced Thepowerofhealing is another of the state’s top threeyearolds. In fact, there are numerous top young trotters racing at present, with numerous rich races on the way between now and September.
Ronerail had also won at Shepparton the previous Saturday night, to take his career record to three wins and three placings from just eight starts.
The Victorian Derby series ends with the $75,000 final at Maryborough on 23 July. The last Gippsland horse to contest the final was Blue Rock in 2004.
Last Thursday, Hughes returned to Shepparton for his second victory at the circuit in a week with another promising trotter, Hot Trottin’ Rebel.
