PEARCEDALE put up a good showing for three quarters against Sorrento in the fifth round of Nepean League football, before succumbing and going down by 45 points.
The game was a battle from start to finish with Sharks’ key forward Scott Cameron booting five goals and his Pearcedale counterpart, Mathugh Vagg snaring four majors.
Sorrento’s superior fitness in the final term saw it boot seven goals to two and take the muchneeded victory.
Langwarrin shot to top spot on the ladder with a 120point belting of Tyabb, led by Ricky Ramsdale with six goals, while Crib Point and Rye fought out a close contest with the Demons getting up by 18 points.
The other two games were tame affairs with Frankston’s Ryan Lia booting 10 goals in his team’s 129point win over Rosebud and Dromana giving Red Hill an 87point lesson led by Adam Hunter with six majors.
Peninsula League was highlighted by a draw between traditional rivals Chelsea and Mornington.
The Bulldogs stormed home from five goals down at threequarter time and finished with five more scoring shots than their hot favourite rivals, but just failed to grab a moraleboosting win.
Mt Eliza took advantage of that result and recorded a 38point win over EdithvaleAspendale to secure top position, while Frankston YCW demolished Hastings by 81 points.
Seaford moved into the four with a 15point win over Pines and Bonbeach surprised a lethargic Karingal, taking victory by 18 points.
