PAKENHAM Consolidated Primary School principal Leonie Campbell, said children taken on to the Windermere Kids Becoming Champions program had become different children.
A strong supporter of the program Ms Campbell said she had seen children enter the program who were educationally and developmentally behind the eight ball.
“The transformation has been extraordinary.
“Sadly, there are dozens more who need this sort of assistance in this school alone.”
Ms Gaynor said children received access to activities that helped develop social and living skills that also assisted with learning and development.
“They help to develop teamwork, problemsolving skills including anger management — all the basic fundamentals that children need to learn to grow into healthy, well adjusted adults.”
Kids Becoming Champions benefactor Andrew Facey said he believed there were many businesses in the area that would be keen to support the service because it worked.
“For $10,000 they can sponsor one of these kids and know they are making a major difference and laying a foundation for that child’s future,” he said.
The program relies on volunteers as tutors and mentors working within a team of social workers and health professionals.
It provides highly disadvantaged children with a circle of support and helps develop vital resilience. Within the sponsorship program, there are opportunities for businesses and their staff to stay in touch with progress.
