BEACONSFIELD Cricket Club’s, C and Dgrade sides reached the finals with strong wins against Lang Lang and Pakenham at the weekend.
However, a win over Tooradin was not enough to get the Tigers’ Agrade team into the top four. Beaconsfield ended the homeandaway season with five wins.
A GRADE
Needing a strong win over Tooradin and other results to fall the right way, Beaconsfield took care of its share with a 22run victory.
Defending 288 from the previous week, Beaconsfield bowled and fielded consistently throughout the day to dismiss the Seagulls for 266.
Best with the ball was Jason Dodd with 3/49 from 20.5 overs, as well as a black eye from a nasty fielding incident. Ryan O’Connor posted 3/56 from his 17.2 overs and Rick Cook returned 2/34, while Gus Patti finished an excellent Agrade debut season with 1/51. Brad Miles had a good day in the field with two catches and a runout. Unfortunately the result of the Catani and Devon Meadows game meant that both Beaconsfield and Tooradin were denied a finals’ berth.
B GRADE
Unable to reach the finals, Beaconsfield still managed to finish the season on a high note with a strong win over Cardinia.
Chasing 233, Beaconsfield finished at 7/303. Rhys Miller opened with 34 runs, alongside captain Matt Ravenhall with 37. Jarrod Williams completed an excellent season with 62 and Troy McDermott notched up 30. At the end of the knock Steve Glenn and Travis Turnbull remained notout on 58 and 31 respectively to complete a good win.
C GRADE
With the massive total of 333 to defend against Lang Lang, Beaconsfield bowled well to dismiss its opponent for 219. Matt O’Connor captured 3/43 from 15 overs alongside Dave Lennon’s 3/39 from 12 overs. Brendan Ewert chipped in with 2/21 while Jamie Ingham was the other bowler to open his account.
D GRADE
With an outright win likely needed to secure a finals’ spot, Beaconsfield fought hard through three innings on day two to gain maximum points. With Pakenham 6/36 from the previous week, the remaining four wickets were taken for just 13 runs. Greg Butler finished with 5/24 from 12 overs and excellent support was provided by Steve Grindy (3/11) and Jayden Mack (2/12). Asked to follow on, Pakenham was dismissed for 112. Greg Butler stepped up again with 6/35 for match figures of 11/59 and Sam Benbow bowled well for 1/24 as did Jayden Mack with 1/13. Captain Rob Young proved a partnership breaker with 1/4. Needing 22 runs to win, Paul Benbow notched a hardhitting 21 with Greg Tomamichel nine notout.
E GRADE
Chasing Officer’s 100, Beaconsfield claimed a big win, finishing at 6/232. Russell Vincent hit a welldeserved 72 to cap off his season and Bill Carlyle batted well for 33, as did junior Luke Johnson with 26. Ben Martin (15) and Paul Brown (13) provided support.
F GRADE
Beaconsfield won in a forfeit against Catani.
