Winning pair to the fore

IT was a winning combination for Jim Bransgrove and Ron Nocentini who won the Saturday fourballbestball competition at Drouin Golf Club with 48 points on a countback from Bob Ramage and Mal Thomas.
In the event, sponsored by Anthony and Leanne Bambridge, 96 players teed off.
Other good scores came from Errol Hopkinson and Paul Hopkinson who returned a 47, as did Greg Patterson and Jim McCormack.
Balls down the line went to 45 on a countback.
Nearest the pins – second: Jim McCormack, fifth: Dean Robbins, 14th: Eric Robbins, 17th: Gerry Tymensen.
Saturday was also the completion of the Summer Cup Fourball Matchplay Championships.
After winning their respective quarter and semifinals two pairs remained.
The final was between the fatherson combination of Tom and Glenn Flowers and Lester Smethurst and Bruce Horskins.
The contest went down to the wire with the pairs tied after 18 holes.
Tom and Glenn eventually took the title at the second extra hole.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

There were 101 players who took to the course for the Stableford round.
Forty points were required in each grade to take the money.
Brent Eastwell (handicap 12) visiting from Warragul won Agrade with 40 from Ivan Moffatt 39, Jim Gregory 38, Ron McGill 38 and Mick Whitford 38.
Les Madden (16) won Bgrade also with 40 on a countback from Ian Dorsie.
Doug Clark was next on 39, followed by Michael Barry 38 and Trevor Eastwell 37.
Greg Patterson (27) won Cgrade with 40 on a countback from Laurie Pyle.
Rick Fenby, Ray Cropley and Noel Brereton all returned with 37.
Nearest the pins – second: Cameron Snell, fifth (pro pin): Les Madden, 14th: Mick Hamilton. Balls down the line went to 37 on a countback and the CCR was 71. Charlie Hardy was the winner of the senior ninehole competition last Thursday with 23 points from Graeme Brenchley 21, Mike Roberts 21, Barry Hitchins 20, Bill Pyle 20 and Jim McCormack 20.

COMING EVENTS

This Saturday is an individual Par event and the first round of the Autumn Amble Trophy.

LADIES

It was another cool day last Tuesday and 49 women played a stroke event for the monthly medal on the Centenary Course. The CCR was 73 nett.
Before the results were announced, president Audrey welcomed new member Yvonne Cooper and a presentation was made to Robyn Eacott for winning the Match Play Championship and Nerida Hammond for being runnerup. John Isles Transport was thanked for sponsoring this event.
The winner of Agrade and the monthly medal was Kerryn Milner with a score of 70 nett and runnerup was Lorna Hoskins with 71 nett.
Bgrade winner was Di Baskett with 73 nett and the runnerup was Ethel Manley with 74 nett. Cgrade winner was Sue Hatfield with 75 nett and the runnerup was Meg Blanchard with 76 nett.
Nearest the pin on the second was Shirley Todd and on the 14th was Ann Roberts. The propin was won by Bernace Miller.
Downtheline balls went to Glenda Warren 71 nett, Jill Brenchley 72 nett, Leeanne Planck 73 nett, Margaret Purcell 75 nett, Ann Roberts and Poss Leeson, both on 76 nett.

TRARALGON WIN

Shirley Todd won the Agrade scratch event at the Aygee Schweppes Classic at Traralgon recently.
Drouin also had a nearest the pin and Di Baskett won a downtheline prize.

NINE HOLE SENIORS

The Thursday ninehole seniors competition was won by Audrey Smethurst with 19 points, Anna Moffatt, Jill Brenchley, Pauline Appleyard all on 18 points and Ann Roberts on 17 points.

COMING EVENTS

This week is the Baw Baw Classic, Tuesday at Warragul, Wednesday at Drouin and Friday at Trafalgar. Next week is the DrouinGarfield Challenge, sponsored by Brian Soutar Real Estate. This will be 9am for a 9.30am shotgun start.
