Auto club finds a slower lane

PAKENHAM Auto Club’s August club meeting was held at the Narre Warren Bowl, where members and friends tried their hand at a different sport. Directing a bowling ball down a lane to hit as many pins as possible is a slightly different concept to driving a car down a road trying to avoid all obstacles.
Members enjoyed the change of pace, but did not lose their competitive approach. Alan Bloomfield was first outright on 122 despite a recent operation to his nonbowling hand. He was closely followed by the youngest competitor, Tyson Hill (123), then Tyson’s mum Glenys and his older brother Kingsley on 124 and James Hardy 113.
Club president John Hill and young rally driver Ari Patterson both scored 105 and Sam Robison, who organised this alternative competition, only managed 103. Matt de Vaus (92) cannot bowl as well as he can organise a rally. The club thanked Sam for finding a way to keep up the spirits of club members while waiting for the council to find them a new home.
Club members have been travelling to Morwell, Maffra, Somerton and Phillip Island for motorkhanas and Autocross events, while others have travelled as far as Nagambie, Avoca and Wangaratta to compete. The last event run by the Pakenham Auto Club was on 3 July at the old tip site in Five Mile Road, Nar Nar Goon.
