Emerald bats bomb out

IT was a disappointing end to the season for Emerald’s Agrade team on Saturday when its bats failed in a 291 run chase against Merinda Park, being all out in the 70th over for 175.
The Bombers resumed at 1/22 and after the loss of an early wicket Mark Alenson and Brodie Lucas put together a solid partnership that brought the score to 74.
Lucas made 20 and after Alenson was dismissed in the 53rd over for 46, the Bombers were all but out of the game.
Andrew Walker’s 29 was good, as was a 22 by Rod Smith and 15 notout to Wes Wright.

B GRADE

Last week Nyora made 250 and the Bombers resumed at 1/1 on Saturday and got off to a good start with Euan Thoms and Tim Sproule taking the score to 54.
Thoms was out and that brought James Litterbach to the crease and he batted well with Sproule to post a 120run stand.
Litterbach made another good score of 60 and soon after his dismissal Sproule brought up his century. It capped off a good game after his 4/70 with the ball the previous week.
However from then on the Bombers had another collapse and were dismissed 15 runs short of the target for 235.
Matt Livermore batted well at the end of the innings to be notout.
D GRADE

Attempting to chase down KilcundaBass’ 236, the Bombers got off to a good start with Jarred Gillespie looking good at the top of the order.
However the loss of four quick wickets saw the score slip to 4/34.
Lee Ligtermoet joined Corey Sweeney at the crease and the pair put together a good partnership to take the score to 76.
Sweeney was the seventh out for the Bombers, but managed to compile a very good innings of 60.
Andrew Morris and Andrew Rolfs batted well at the end of the innings to give Emerald some hope and Kade Ely hit a good 18 notout, but the Bombers were dismissed for 183 after 63 overs.

E GRADE

Playing old foe Gembrook, the Bombers got off to a good start in their chase of 22.
Mick Vanleewen (27), and Tyler Sidwell (17) put on 43 for the first wicket.
The loss of a few wickets then saw the score move to 4/72.
Mark O’Brien and Chris Alenson batted well together before O’Brien was out for 23.
However from there, Alenson put on great partnerships with Brock Barlow, James Burke and finally Callum Benoiton to see the Bombers home with two wickets and not many overs to spare.
Alenson finished on 69 notout and Benoiton 13 notout.
F GRADE

The oneday team played its first final against KilcundaBass, won the toss and bowled first.
Geoff Worrell and Gary Santini got Emerald off to a breezy start before the score fell to 2/38.
Santini then continued on his great form as he posted another 50.
Trevor Tilly with 17 and Kevin Stapleton’s 20 helped continue on the momentum set by Santini.
At the end of the innings Darren Fellows and Danny Mazlo produced some good hitting to get the score to 5/170.
In reply the Bombers didn’t get off to a great start with the first wicket coming in the 17th over with the score on 74.
Darren Fellows came on and produced a great spell of bowling to collect 3/12 off six overs and he was well supported by Gary Santini’s 1/38 and Trevor Tilly’s 1/27.
In the end KilcundaBass ended up making 6/159 off its 35 overs to give the Bombers a narrow win.

UNDER 17 BLACK

Needing only two runs to defeat Clyde, the Bombers got the runs in the first over then went on the attack in search of an outright defeat.
Byron Sidwell and Dan Leversha both made 50s to help the Bombers reach 1/152 after 33 overs.
The Bombers bowled well but could not get the wickets for an outright as they finished on 3100.
Euan Thoms bowled well with 1/10 off eight overs, while Chris Bray got 2/16.

UNDER 15 RED

After bowling the Beacy Saints out for 124 the previous week, the Bombers were unable to claim a win as they were bowled out for 45.
Michael Collins did well opening the batting to make 10, while Jarrad Donders made 13.
In a second innings Emerald made 7/37. Mike Dompietro top scored with 14 not out.

UNDER 13 REDBACKS

After rolling Gembrook for 73 the previous week, the Redbacks posted a great win, making 145.
Trent Rolfs (12) and Caleb Lobbe (24 retired) opened and got the Bombers off to a great start, then Cam Williams and Darcy Hellrigal also batted well to set up the victory.

CLUB NOTES

This Saturday and Sunday morning the under17 black and under15 black teams will host their semifinals at Chandler and Worrell Reserves.
The club hopes many senior players will attend to support the young Bombers.
