MARYKNOLL residents fear claims that deer in the area need culling might bring unwanted shooters to their rural community.
They are concerned about a recent press report suggesting that a cull is the only solution.
Maryknoll Progress Association president Vin Tyler said it was alarming to think there could be a repeat of an incident last year when a man walked into the local store and asked ‘where are the deer to shoot around here?’
“The community does not want any shooters coming into Maryknoll, shooting in our reserves, near our properties or families.”
Association secretary Angelique Eccleston said residents were “definitely not” calling on the State Government or anyone else to immediately cull deer in the area.
“And people need to clearly know that shooting is illegal in Maryknoll. Deer shooting is prohibited here,” she said.
Oh, dear, oh deer … shooter fear
