Iona set for runs

IONA’S Cgrade side kicked off its first two day match of the season in the field against Longwarry and started well picking up three early wickets two to leftarmer Mick Jusic.
Longwarry then responded well with a big partnership between Madden and Peterson that added 62 until Mark O’Farrell knocked over Madden for 43.
D. Bourke came in and offered good support to the inform Peterson, but when Bourke went Sean McCormack came into the attack and took four of the last five wickets to finish with 4/23.
Peterson was left stranded on 95 and Longwarry was bowled out for 216.
Iona then begun its run chase disastrously losing both openers early in the innings, but Tom McCormack (30) and Mark O’Farrell (21) are both unbeaten at stumps with the score at 2/72.
This leaves Iona with another 144 runs to win with eight wickets in hand.

A GRADE (2)

Iona’s A2 side batted first in its twoday game against Jindivick but started badly, losing two early wickets.
However opener William Grbic and Shaun Taylor were up to the task recovering strongly and adding 70 for the third wicket until Taylor was dismissed for 40.
This brought the inform Craig Byrnes to the crease and he and Grbic continued to put on the runs.
Grbic made his 50 and was dismissed for 66 and the partnership was broken at 63.
Byrnes fell 30 runs later on 42 and Matt Duffy played well for 26 and Iona was bowled out for 220.
In response Jindivick is 0/8 after five overs.

B GRADE (2)

Iona’s B2 team also playing Jindivick, won the toss and elected to field and started well with Jason Kelly taking three wickets in his opening spell.
The two Donoghue brothers then entered the attack with immediate effect, claiming three quick wickets between them and Jindivick was in trouble at 6/70.
However K. Mikkelsen came to the crease and dished it out to the bowlers with a top innings of 97 and was well supported by the tail.
Mikkelsen was the last to fall, stumped to spinner Gary Donoghue who finished with his careerbest figures of 5/60 from 18 overs and Jindivick reached 198.
In response Iona has started badly with the score at 2/3 after five overs.

UNDER 16

Iona was bowled out for 117 in its match against Buln Buln with Luke Ferguson top scoring with a superb 52 and Josh Saik made 19.
In response Buln are 1/13 with Chris Mitchell the wicket taker.

UNDER 14

Iona has once again struggled with the bat, being bowled out for 29, Leigh Donoghue top scoring with nine.
The bowlers responded well and were able to dismiss Buln Buln for 48 with J. Coleman the best of the bowlers with 3/4.
Iona now in its second innings is going well at 1/35 and could end up with a chance at a reverse outright.
D. Sheeran top scored with 17 and J. Coleman is not out on 13.
