Morland’s reign gets longer

LONG-serving councillor Mick Morland romped home to easily top the Edrington Ward poll in last Saturday’s Casey council election.
Brian Hetherton polled well to win the second seat in Edrington.
Voters threw out controversial Four Oaks Ward councillor Roland Abraham, and the quiet Brechin Ward councillor Angela Dunleavy, who appeared to run a low-key election campaign.
Former councillor and mayor Janet Halsall led the vote in River Gum Ward to be elected with former mayor Wayne Smith.
Mayfield Ward voters returned Kevin Bradford and elected short-term former councillor Steve Beardon. Cr Beardon was elected in the 2002 election, but resigned after only four weeks after becoming totally offside with most other councillors.
Cr Beardon during the declaration of the poll on Sunday said he would re-think his attitude to his position as a councillor.
He said he would pace himself and this time be more willing to compromise on some issues.
Cr Colin Butler easily retained his seat in the only single-councillor ward Balla Balla.
Paul Richardson, and former mayor Rob Wilson, won the seats in Four Oaks Ward.
Michael Farley and sitting councillor Lorraine Wreford were successful in Springfield Ward. The council has 11 councillors in five two-councillor wards and one single councillor ward.
