Muddy offroad rev up

KOOWEERUP Motorcycle Club members starred on a wet, muddy and treacherous track in the final senior round of the 2005 Yamaha Victorian OffRoad championships at Myrtleford on Sunday, 21 August.
With many classes still hanging in the balance and the Alpine Motor Cycle Club continuing its tradition of putting on firstclass events, the entry rate was high.
Overnight rain turned the course into a singletrack, grooved quagmire and as the juniors could not negotiate the difficult course, their event was run on the quads course.
When it came to the senior practice lap, not even they could negotiate what was to be a threehour crosscountry course.
Quick thinking by the organisers saw the course changed to a threelap sprint event and even this proved difficult and a true test for the pro riders with a high attrition rate for the clubman riders.
Victoria and Kooweerup member Jehi Willis already had the points for his backtoback numberone plate in Victoria coming into the event.
He rode probably his best for the season when he blitzed all before him including the interstate challenge of Brad Williscroft and Ben Kearney.
Experienced wetweather campaigner Evan Blackstock rode with renewed vigour to take out third place behind Williscroft.
Dewi Davies coming in 11th place showed sheer determination while trying to overcome apparent brake problems.
In Expert class one, newly crowned A4DE Junior team members Ben Perkins and Paul Robbins fought it out with Perkins taking the lead from Robbins and Piers Kensley.
The Expert class two was probably the hottest all day with motocross rider turned enduro Rohan Trefz proving he had the pace to run with the pros by taking a win from upandcomer Kooweerup member Todd Stephenson.
Dwayne Lloyd coming in fifth place showed these two Kooweerup members are out to win top spot. Todd Stephenson was placed seventh outright and looks good to ride pro next season.
Overall clubman went to Mathew Arden from evergreen Glen Capuano and Grant Lake.
Kooweerup Motorcycle Club will hold its presentation night on 8 October.
