Rail sign changes the town’s view

A NEW sign at the rail level crossing in Nar Nar Goon has been decried as dangerous by residents.
The sign, at the intersection of Racecourse Road and Nar Nar Goon’s Main Street, in the centre of town, was erected recently as part of preparations for the upcoming Regional Fast Rail.
The sign warns of the rail crossing, but residents say it blocks their view.
Nar Nar Goon Progress Association president Bernie Byrne said the sign had been the subject of many complaints by locals.
“It completely obscures the vision of a person planning a right or lefthand turn into Main Street from Racecourse Road,” Mr Byrne said.
“At peak times, Main Street carries up to 500 vehicles an hour and a good deal of these are heavy commercial vehicles,” he said.
“Also, a huge number of mums and dads are taking children to and fro from our three schools.
“Since this sign was erected a short time ago, the risk of collision and death or serious injury is very real.”
Mr Byrne said the progress association had been approached by several concerned residents.
He said Cardinia Shire Council, VicRoads, Asia Pacific Rail and police at Bunyip and Pakenham had been advised of residents’ concerns and were looking into the issue.
