IT was a close result, but Pakenham Golf Club’s Gavin Steel won the January monthly medal on Saturday with an excellent nett 67.
The medal was decided on a countback from Rob McCoubrie who was the winner of the Bgrade trophy.
Fred Uini came in with 68 to take the Cgrade trophy.
The scratch winner was Jason McQualter with 72 and the CCR was 72.
The medal was sponsored by Cignall Berwick.
The Super Competition winners were Gavin Steel, Jason McQualter and Rob McCoubrie.
Nearest the pin on the golf shop second hole was Jason McQualter and the Pakenham Subway fifth hole went to Jerry Van Driel Vis.
Colin Crowle was the winner of the Dante’s Woodfired Pizza eighth hole and Dan O’Loughlin took out the Hungry Jack’s 14th hole. Matt Ahern was the winner of the Pakenham Pizza 16th hole.
The second shot on the B.M.R. Autos sixth hole was won by Alan Tagell.
The second shot on the Unique Bathroom Design and Renovation 11th hole went to John Campbell and the CTM Bricklaying second shot on the 17th saw Mason Shadwell the winner.
Mason Shadwell won the B.M.R. Autos Agrade longest drive and the Bgrade went to Darren Richards and the McIntyre Painting Cgrade longest drive was won by Trevor McQualter.

This Saturday is a fourballbestball Stableford day with guests welcome and the following week is the Australia Day weekend.
The club will run a twoday event over the Friday and Saturday as well as the normal day events.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:OPENING DAY FOR 2007

An open mixed Canadian event was held last Sunday to mark the beginning of the 2007 golf year.
The winners were Gavan and Maria Warburton with 69 1/4. Gavan and Maria were the defending Opening Day winners so they are hoping to make it three in a row next year.
The runnersup were Jill White and Tony Smith with 70 3/8 on a countback.
Shirley Roberts was the winner of the ladies nearest the pin on the 14th and Ron Horne took out the men’s eighth hole.
Downtheline balls went to Shirley Roberts/Paul Hobson 70 3/8, Viki Maxwell/Rob Sandiford 70 1/2, Judy and Ron Horne 72 and Libby and Nick De Hey 74.
A special presentation of a plaque was made to Alma Blackam for her years of service and commitment to the Pakenham Golf Club.
The Jock Ritchie Memorial was played in conjunction with opening day and was won by Maria and Gavan Warburton. Many thanks to the Ritchie family for their support on this event.
Club members were pleased to see Rena Bueler playing after the passing of her husband over the Christmas period. The Club passes on their condolences to Rena.
Cignall, Berwick and Les and Kay Jones were thanked for their sponsorship of the opening day.

Sixtysix players took part in the Par competition in perfect golfing weather.
Bert Burniston was the winner with +10 an excellent score. Max Cole came in with +6 to be in the winner’s circle, followed by Jean Hoare and Bob Dowse with +5.

David Robinson was the best of 78 Stableford competitors coming in with a score of 44 points.
Alan Halleur and Bob Yates both had 41 points, followed by Broni Jaremczuk and Joseph Brennan with 40 points.
Downtheline balls went to Clint Walker, Scott Milnes, Brian Degering, Ray Wilson and Scott Hooper with 39 points, Mal McKenna 38, Chris Templeton (Lang Lang) 38, Nik Hock 38, Brian Webster 38, followed by Stojko Kresojevic, Brian Doherty and Steve Chapman with 37.
Nearest the pin on the fifth hole went to Shannon Sandiford, the eighth was won by Mark Klaver and the 14th went to Alan Halleur.

Due to the very hot weather the Twilight field was small, but those who played enjoyed the round.
