A 10-YEAR-OLD girl is in the Royal Children’s Hospital with internal injuries after the car she was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision just two days after Christmas.
Police are angry that such a serious crash occurred in the festive season and have appealed for witnesses.
“It isn’t good enough to have a 10-year-old in hospital two days after Christmas,” Senior Constable Brad Cummins said.
The girl and her mother, 38, of Beaconsfield, were travelling on Beaconsfield-Emerald Road, Guys Hill, when their 2004 grey Mazda sedan and a 2007 silver Holden commodore utility collided.
The incident occurred near Barnes Road shortly after 6pm on Saturday 27 December.
Police interviewed a 25-year-old Emerald man, arrested about one kilometre from the scene, and plan to file charges for criminal and traffic offences.
The girl’s mother, who suffered serious internal injuries, has since been released from the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Police have appealed for anybody who may have seen the Holden utility driving north along Beaconsfield–Emerald Road that evening to come forward.
