Warragul sales firm

THIS week’s fat cattle sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, consisted of a yarding of 700 head and all sold to good demand.
Quality was very good in all categories. The yarding averaged 47 kilograms lighter than the last sale with fewer bullocks on offer.
Vealers made up 56 per cent of the offerings and remained firm in price averaging 176.5, with a top price of 238 cents.
Good store calves sold strongly with restockers and feedlotters competing for pen lots, while 125 steers sold well to top at 179.6 with a seven cent increase in average to 162.3.
Heifers also rose in price, reaching 197.2 and lifted six cents to 147.4 on average.
Only 64 bullocks were yarded, but sold to very good demand averaging nine cents dearer at 160.4 and made to 180.2.
A lift in prices for all categories on Thursday at the bull and cow sale where 18 bulls reached 155 cents and rose two cents to 139.1 on average.
There were 721 cows of varying condition, which saw the top return 163.6 and the average rose six cents to 111.2 cents.
This week’s yarding was similar to last week with the weight average only three kilograms lighter.
