IN THE first week of Bunyip Bendigo Bank’s Ban The Bulb campaign, more than 410 energy-hungry light bulbs were removed and replaced with energy-efficient ones.
Home owners in Longwarry, Bunyip, Garfield and Nar Nar Goon joined up to the initiative to replace their incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving ones, installed free of charge by the Bunyip Garfield Rotary.
It was the first of four weekends that the Ban the Bulb campaign will run.
Sue Dubbeld from Bunyip and District Bendigo Bank Branch said the community’s response to the program had been overwhelming.
“We have had a lot of people coming in and asking about Ban the Bulb, with more than 50 locals singing up to get their old bulbs changed over for new environmentally-friendly ones at no cost to them,” she said.
“And you don’t have to bank with us to take part in the campaign, simply come into the branch and we can organise everything for you.”
Peter Heywood from Bunyip Garfield Rotary Club said for each bulb they exchanged, the group received $2 through the program.
“We hope to replace 5500 bulbs and raise up to $11,000,” Mr Heywood said.
To have your old bulbs replaced free of charge in the coming weeks visit Bunyip and Bendigo Bank Branch at 18 Main Street, Bunyip. For further details call the branch on 5629 6091.
