NAR Nar Goon-Maryknoll failed in its run chase of reigning premiers Cardinia when it was bowled out for 111, losing by 61 runs on day 2, round one in Premier Grade on Saturday.
Commencing the day at 4/29, the chips were down on the Marygoons.
Noel O’Brien was dismissed in the first over and 11th ball of the day. Craig Lewis and Simon Rogers built a partnership before Rogers was out just before tea. Post tea Alan Downes, Ken McLeod and Scott Musgrove got starts, but not enough to win the game.
Brendan McGrath tried hard to hold up the end. Craig Lewis stood tall and ended up 33 not-out.

Special mention to Col Hodson the aged veteran that showed the figures of a man that hasn’t lost his touch 1/5 off six and 0/3 off three.

Chasing 159 was always going to be a big ask, however the Marygoons’ batting was far worse than they could have imagined.
They were bowled out for 75 in the first innings with only Geoff Ball 34 and Joe Murphy 16 making double figures.
Batting a second time was not much better with only Ash Jensen (26) and Noel Pullen (36) making double figures in a total of 83.
Overall out twice for only 158.

The Marygoons went down to Devon Meadows by 21 runs.
A fighting effort, given that many regular senior players were unavailable.
Good efforts by the bowlers saw them rewarded with all sharing in the wickets.
It’s hoped that all players attend training this week to improve on their current performance.
