Seagulls are flying high

IT was a good start to the season by Tooradin in Premier Division when it downed Pakenham Upper-Toomuc (PUT) by 87 runs on first innings on day two, round one on Saturday.
Chasing the Seagulls’ score of 252, PUT was dismissed for 165 in the 65th over.
Youngster Jay Wilson continued on his good batting of last week by having the dangerous Dave Cavanagh caught in slips by Callum O’Hare when the score was one.
Batsman Luke Gunton and Chris Smith then had on a 48-run partnership before they were both dismissed after drinks and PUT was 3/49 with Jay Wilson and Aaron Avery taking the vital wickets.
Rory Alder had Andrew Cooper caught behind in the last over before tea and PUT was 4/88.
Alder struck again when he bowled John Wallin and PUT was 5/100.
A useful 53-run partnership took place before Aaron Avery bowled Shannon Price at 6/153.
The tailenders offered little resistance and eventually were dismissed for 165 losing the last five wickets for 12 runs.
Aaron Avery 4/28 (12 overs), Jay Wilson 2/13 (eight overs), Callum O’Hare 2/24 (14 overs) and Rory Alder 2/46 were the successful wicket takers.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:SUB-DISTRICT

Tooradin defeated Lyndhurst Vikings on the first innings by 143 runs.
Chasing the Seagulls’ score of 242, Lyndhurst was dismissed for 99.
Lyndhurst had no answer to Tooradin’s pace attack with the first six batsmen all bowled or lbw.
Skipper Rick Holland had 4/10 (eight overs) and was well supported by Steve Hammil 5/37 (11 overs) and Sam Clarke 1/26.
Tooradin sent Lyndhurst Vikings 4/41 in the second innings before they saw out time to be 4/83 at the end of play.
In the second innings Ben Mantel took 2/14 from five overs and the skipper gave eight bowlers a bowl including Dene North’s 0/2 from two overs.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:C GRADE

Tooradin lost by three runs to Emerald.
Chasing Emerald’s 83, Tooradin resumed at 8/60 and was dismissed for 80.
Grant Kernot top scored with 33 and was dismissed when the score was 9/63.
Dale Bethune was joined by Dave Freeman and took the score to 80 before Dave was dismissed for 14 and Dale remained five not-out. A narrow loss.
Emerald batted a second time and was dismissed for 156.
Peter O’Hare completed a good double by taking 5/26, new player Joel Mitchell took 2/23 and Adam Richmond 2/25.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:E GRADE

Tooradin was defeated by Emerald at Rutter Park by 57 runs on the first innings.
Chasing Emerald’s score of 186, Tooradin failed to get away to a good start being 4/22 from eight overs.
Skipper Shane Somers and Daniel Quinn then had a 41-run partnership before Shane went for 12. Daniel continued on his good bowling form to make top score of 48 before he was dismissed.
At tea, Tooradin was 6/103 from 33 overs.
However after tea, Daniel Wallis (10) and Daniel Quinn were dismissed within one run of each other. Micah Gardner scored 15 as the Seagulls ended on 129.
Emerald had a second innings hit and was 4/41 at stumps. Matt Cartwright 2/9, Ross Simpson 1/5 and James Thompson 1/12 were the successful wicket takers.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:JUNIOR RESULTS
UNDER 15

Tooradin started well by defeating Kilcunda-Bass by 38 runs on the first innings.
Tooradin won the toss and batted with both openers Dylan Sutton and Brad Lenders retiring on 15 each.
Next batsmen Mitch Dawkins and Andrew Proctor also retired on 16 each. Nic Simpson retired 15 and Tim Lenders was run out for 10 to see Tooradin 1/102 from 25 overs.
Dylan Sutton bowled with great control to take the first two wickets and see Kilcunda-Bass 2/13.
Wickets continued to fall with Tim Lenders 1/6, Tom Cam 1/1, Jasper Donaldson 1/12.
Two new players to cricket, Cody Cramberg (1/3) and Troy Seebacher (1/3) both bowled well.
Eventually Kilcunda-Bass ended up at 8/64 from 25 overs.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 13

Tooradin travelled to Beaconsfield and was defeated in a close game by 12 runs.
Beaconsfield batted first and was 7/97 from 25 overs.
Two new players took the bowling honours with Bailey Webb 2/7 and Luke Adams 2/14. Fraser Rendall (1/9), Mitch Simpson (1/13) and Rohan Simpson (1/18) were the other wicket takers.
In reply Tooradin made 3/85.
Youngsters Lewis Johnson and Rohan Simpson both retired on 15, Jake Dean scored 12, Fraser Rendall 11. Owen Johnson was five not-out.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 11

Tooradin played Nyora on Friday night and had a very even game.
The Seagulls batted first with Bradley Butler (16) and Ned Harrison (nine) getting amongst the runs.
New player Jordan Stuart looked promising and made five runs and took two wickets.
Ned Harrison also took two wickets, Jessica Hawkless one wicket and another new player Tim Burgess-Hodson one wicket.

This week under-11 and under-13 have the Tooradin Primary School concert and will not play on Friday, October 16 against Kilcunda-Bass. It will be a one-day game on 23 October.
Kilcunda/Bass Cricket Club was thanked for helping with this arrangement.
