BUNYIP’S Annual Flower Show will celebrate spring and its beautiful blooms for the 107th year running this November.
The historic flower show began in 1902 at the St Thomas Church, Bunyip. More than a century later, locals are still coming together to show off their artistic arrangements and gardening talents.
This year’s show is dedicated to Joyce McDermid, who co-ordinated the show for many years until her passing in 2008. Her daughter Wendy Earwicker will oversee this year’s event, to be held in the Bunyip Hall on Saturday, 7 November.
Residents of Bunyip and the surrounding district are encouraged to exhibit their flowers and enter the photography competition.
Classes will include cut flowers, with various sub-categories including specific flowers such as roses, iris, azaleas, rhododendrons, fuchsias, daisies, geranium, pelagonium, flowering shrubs native and non-native and more.
Arrangements will also be divided into several categories including dried and old-fashioned containers.
Children under 14 years can enter a garden in a container, something they grew, a saucer of flowers and many more.
Entry is 30 cents, and no entry forms are needed- just bring along your displays on the morning of Friday 6 November. A trophy will be awarded in each section.
The flower show will also have market stalls, a plant stall, raffles, a sausage sizzle, Devonshire teas and an arts and crafts display.
The Bunyip Annual Flower Show will be held at the Bunyip Hall on Saturday 7 November from 9am to 2pm. Admission is free. Contact Wendy on 5629 9241 for details.
