THE first of at least nine independent units at Pakenham Aged Care is tenant ready. Pakenham Aged Care chief executive Linda Austen said the units were part of a major upgrade to the facility.
A further eight units will be built next year, while work will soon start on a $6 million extension.
The extension will see the Ron Andrews Nursing Home relocated to a new building, while that area will be transformed into a dementia unit.
The extension will also see a cinema, multi-purpose rooms, additional courtyards and underground parking added to the aged care facility.
Ms Austen said the first independent living unit, a fully maintained two-bedroom and disabled friendly home, was perfect for those with family at Ron Andrews or Millhaven Hostel.
“We’ve had a lot of inquiries from people whose partners want to come on site but aren’t ready for aged care,” she said.
