BOTH Wednesday and Thursday’s sales saw fewer head yarded at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange Warragul, with the cold conditions and lighter demand having an effect. Buyers and agents alike commented on the lighter condition of much of the yarding. All these factors combined caused an easing in all categories on offer.
Six bullocks on Wednesday slipped 10 cents to 156.4, with prices ranging from 107 to 146.
Heifers, of which about 35 per cent were in the light section, had 11 cents removed from the average price.
Heavy heifers ranged from 110 to 175.2 and light heifers 90 to 121.2.
Steers equating to less than half of last week’s offerings eased only seven cents to 149.4. No light steers were penned with heavy steers making from 116 to 183.6.
Extra vealers were yarded with 220 present, light condition represented many of the smaller veal, with the average back six cents, heavy vealers saw prices from 116 to 230 and light 106.2 to 199.
Prices for bulls remained firm this week, with a good offering of solid condition head, the average remained at 144.3, bull prices ranged from 129.2 to 158.2 for the 14 head penned.
Cows consisting of mainly dairy choppers with a lower percentage of beef cows saw a reduction of seven cents on average.
Heavy cows made from 65 to 136 cents and light 67.2 to 106.2 cents.

Monday’s calf market saw less yarded with 450 offered. Prices tended to ease slightly this week with Friesian heifers selling to $335, dairy bull calves to $52, while beef calves made to $180.
