Discount on road scheme

RESIDENTS who contributed to the cost of a special charge scheme in Cornish Road, Emerald, will get a 10 per cent discount.
Cardinia Shire civic leaders last week accepted that the council vary the charges to all contributors to reduce the amounts by 10 per cent to reflect the actual costs involved in the scheme.
It was initially anticipated that the project would cost $29,576, but that amount included 10 per cent contingencies to allow for unforseen costs.
However, the extra 10 per cent wasn’t required, with the final costs of the works totalling $26,888.
Eight landholders abutting the southern side of Cornish Road had agreed to contribute about $1653, and owners of larger properties were to give up to $3,564 each to the project.
The Cardinia Shire Council was to put forward $9,859.
The special charge scheme was agreed on to ensure that Cornish Road was sealed from end to end.
An eight-lot subdivision on the north side of the road will see most of the road constructed, including kerb and channel on the north side.
However, several sections of road won’t be sealed as part of the subdivision project so the special charge scheme was needed to complete 260 metres of kerb and channel on the south side of the street.
