A MUMS and bubs program in Kooweerup is helping locals on the road to parenthood.
The Kooweerup Regional Health Service is running a childbirth and early parenting education program, providing advice to mothers before and after the birth of their child.
Donna Sheppard-Wright, the Childbirth and Early Parenting Co-ordinator at Kooweerup Regional Health Service, said the program aimed to enhance the transition to parenthood by providing information, education and support from early pregnancy to post-birth.
“Women are often discharged from birthing hospitals early after birth, and with limited assistance available from busy domiciliary staff and Maternal Health Care Nurses,” she said.
“It is vital that women receive follow-up information, education and support.”
Ms Sheppard-Wright said hospitals generally ran childbirth classes for four to six weeks, starting about 30 weeks of pregnancy.
The Kooweerup program consists of six 2.5 hour classes over six months from 12-16 weeks of pregnancy to two to four weeks post-birth.
Bookings for the final series of classes, which begin on Tuesday 17 November, are now being taken.
For bookings or more information about the program, call the Early Parenting Unit at Kooweerup Regional Health Service on 5997 9674 or email epu@krhs.net.au
