HOMES and businesses in Bunyip and surrounding districts have helped make the change for a cleaner, greener future.
As part of the Bendigo Bank’s Ban the Bulb campaign, more than 1,951 energy-hungry light bulbs have been removed from homes and businesses over the past four weekends and replaced with energy efficient ones.
Under the initiative volunteers from Bunyip and Garfield Rotary swapped old bulbs for new ones and for each one exchanged the community group was paid $2.
Sue Dubbeld from Bunyip and District Community Bank Branch said home and business owners have not only saved energy, they have saved money.
“The benefits from this program will continue to flow,” she said.
“Participating householders should see their energy bills fall by as much as $100 a year and businesses could cut their electricity spend by more than 30 per cent.”
Peter Heywood from Bunyip and Garfield Rotary said the community’s response to the program had been fantastic. “Support from home and business owners has been very encouraging, with everyone keen to save money on their electricity bill, live a bit greener and help out Bunyip and Garfield Rotary,” he said.
Bunyip and Garfield Rotary will now receive about $3900 for their efforts, which will go towards various community projects.
There’s still three weekends left of the Ban the Bulb campaign. To have your bulb replaced free of charge, contact Bunyip and District Community Bank Branch on 5629 6091.
