Tons make Tooradin’s day

TWO centuries were the highlight of round five of weekend cricket for Tooradin.
In Premier Grade Ben Mantel scored 106 for his maiden century and in E Grade skipper Shane Somers batted throughout the 70 overs for his 115 not out.
Matt Finch captured 4/12 for Sub District to be the highlights for Tooradin.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:PREMIER GRADE

TOORADIN played Catani away and batted after winning the toss. At the end of play, Catani were 0/3 in reply to Tooradin’s score of 249.
Tooradin had a steady but slow start of 30 before Dave Freeman was run out for 14. Aaron Avery went without scoring and Tooradin was 2/30.
Callum O’Hare continued his good form and with Ben Mantel added 63 for the third wicket before Callum was dismissed for 42. Skipper Brenton Adams joined Mantel and at tea Tooradin was well placed at 3/119 from 42 overs.
The partnership added 80 before Adams was run out for 30. Mantel continued to play attacking cricket and reached his century in the 74th over.
Eventually he was dismissed for 106 after batting for 56 overs. His innings included seven fours and was a great effort in the hot conditions. He was supported at the end by Jay Wilson.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:SUB DISTRICT

TOORADIN played Nar Nar Goon at home and, batting after winning the toss, got away to a solid start: Matt Walker (20) had an opening partnership of 38 with Sean Baker.
Sean and Kane Latham then had a 49-run partnership before Sean was dismissed for a chanceless 35. Kane followed soon after for 34.
At drinks Tooradin was well placed at 4/125 from 44 overs. After drinks, Jarred Thompson showed excellent form to keep the side together by making 37 (five fours) before the side was all out for 166 in the 59th over.
Rick Holland and Matt Finch opened the attack and soon had Nar Nar Goon in trouble. After 19 overs, it was 6/33, with Michael Ralph taking a hot catch from Jamie Glen. Finch ended with the great figures of 4/12 (nine overs), Holland took 1/12 and Kane and Matt featured in a crucial run out for the sixth wicket.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:C GRADE

TOORADIN had a good start at Pakenham at Rutter Park against an accurate attack. The opening partnership between Mick Freeman (11) and Peter Stone (32) was 48 runs from 24 overs.
Tooradin then went from 1/48 to 4/68 and found runs hard to come by. Useful contributions came from Adam Richmond (19) and Darren Kernot (12) but eventually Tooradin was in trouble at 8/107 in the 48th over.
Its next best partnership between Glenn McKay (34) and Dale Bethune 4 not out added 40 runs to see the score move to 147.
Pakenham had a bright start and was 0/18 in reply after only four overs.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:E GRADE

TOORADIN was sent in to bat by Pakenham but started with a solid 35-run partnership between Ross Simpson (24) and Shane Somers. It then lost some quick wickets to be 5/66 from 20 overs.
Then came a top-class partnership between skipper Shane Somers and Shane Hook who batted for about 40 overs before Hook retired hurt on 29 and the score was 170.
Junior player Dylan Sutton joined Somers and they carried the score to 5/220 from 70 overs at stumps on the large Pakenham oval. Somers carried his bat to make 115 not out (seven fours).
Sutton remained on 11 not out in his first senior game.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 15

CLYDE defeated Tooradin by 90 runs on the first innings. Clyde had lost only two wickets when it passed Tooradin’s score. This pair scored 60 before the next wicket fell at 3/73. After 47 overs Clyde was 9/129.
Dylan Sutton took the first two wickets to have 2/7 (six overs). New player Cody Gramberg was the leading wicket taker with 3/15 (four overs). Nic Simpson (1/13) and Tom Cam (1/18) were the other wicket takers.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 13

LANG Lang defeated Tooradin narrowly by one over and one wicket. Chasing Tooradin’s 145, Lang Lang was in trouble at 9/103 in the 32nd over but two retired batsmen returned to the crease and saw Lang Lang home.
Bailey Webb 3/7 (three overs), Mitch Simpson 1/3, Jack Abrehart 1/6, Joel Mackie 2/26 and Nathan Senior 1/13 shared the wickets. Wicketkeeper Lewis Johnson did another good job with two catches, one stumping and no byes.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 11

IT WAS a complete reversal of form from the previous week for Tooradin when it played Lang Lang. Batting first it lost 12 wickets. Best of the batsmen were Brad Butler, Ned Harrison and Jessica Hawkless. Ned Harrison, Brad Butler and Tim Burgess-Mundy all took wickets. Most bowlers showed improvement with fewer wides bowled.
