Seagulls fail to contain Cardinia on day

TOORADIN failed to contain Cardinia in its run chase and losing in Premier Division’s round six, one-day game at Westernport Oval on Saturday.
After winning the toss the Seagulls batted and got a great start with Freeman and O’Hare putting on 96 for the first wicket.
Cardinia bowled well in the late overs to restrict the Seagulls to 155 in heavy conditions. O’Hare played well for his 65, while Freeman supported him well with 43.
In the field Tooradin fought very hard to stay in the game with the highlight being a sensational one-handed catch at full stretch to remove Paterson.
Aaron Avery was again the pick of the bowlers toiling into the wind for 2/25 from his nine overs.
Cardinia played well to pass Tooradin with two overs remaining and were the best team on the day.

The Seagulls played SFX that won the toss and got off to a bright start being 0/102 from the first 19 overs with Mat Walker taking the first wicket on the drinks’ break.
Then, tight bowling from Walker (1/26), Dale Bethune (2/24) and captain Rich Holland (2/23) reigned in the scoring – SFX making 6/186 off its allotted 45 overs. Tooradin openers made 38 before Justin Hinkley was run-out for 16, Mat Walker then fell in the next over for 15 and Tooradin was 2/45.
Regular wickets then fell until Chris Brennan made a run a ball 38 not-out.
The tail tried to support Brennan, but Tooradin fell 17 runs short being all out for 169. The team is looking forward to some key returns next week.

Tooradin hosted Pakenham Upper-Toomuc (PUT) that elected to bat after winning the toss and made 150 off its 40 overs.
The Seagulls’ best bowlers were under-15 player Mitch Dawkins (0/16 from six overs), James Thompson (2/23) and James Brown (1/29). Shane Hook also chipped in with 2/7.
Tooradin was all out for 111.
Best of the batsmen were Ross Simpson (25) and James Brown (33) with Matt Thompson (16) and Joel Mitchell (14) also making useful contributions.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:C GRADE

Tooradin had a bright start at Officer, scoring 37 off six overs before losing opener Peter Stone for eight.
At 1/50 from 11 overs, things still looked good, but the loss of Peter O’Hare (32 at a run a ball) and a middle-order collapse saw the score 6/51 just five overs later.
Adam Richmond on 0 watched the last three of these fall and it was from this point he set out to save the innings.
Another wicket brought under-15 player Dylan Sutton to the crease for his first C-grade game and with Richmond, steadied the ship with a 27-run partnership. Sutton provided great support making seven and batting for 11 overs. His departure brought captain Darren Mantel (13 not-out) to the crease and supported Richmond in a run a ball 62-run partnership – Richmond eventually out with only two balls left for a brilliant 75 and Tooradin 9/157.
Two early wickets gave Tooradin hope and at 5/133 with eight overs left Officer looked to have the edge before captain Mantel (3/36) took two wickets in three balls. At 7/133 and a wicket to Richmond (1/20) the game was still in the balance, but some lusty hitting by Adam Reid saw the Bullants home, making 8/162.
Peter O’Hare (1/31) bowled well, but without luck and ’keeper Stone provided a further highlight taking a blinder down the leg side off the bowling of Brett Murray. Tooradin was happy to welcome back Adam Galea and Tim Lenders (under-15) was also very enthusiastic in the field.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 15

Tooradin was defeated by Cardinia at Rythdale. Chasing the Seagulls’ score of 6/111, Cardinia was untroubled and made 3/228 from 40 overs.
Best bowler was Mitch Dawkins who took 0/16 from six overs. Brad Lenders (1/6), Tim Lenders (1/29) and Dylan Sutton (1/36) were the wicket takers.
Mitch Dawkins took two catches, but generally the fielding was lacklustre.

The game was called off due to heat and the game was drawn with Merinda Park.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:NEXT ROUND

Next Saturday – round seven, Tooradin plays Kooweerup in the Premier Division. The teams will be playing for the Ron Ingram Shield. This is in recognition of Ron, who previously coached both teams and was a former WGCA Golden Jubilee player.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:CLUB NOTES

Tooradin held a karaoke night at the sports club on Saturday. Mathew Walker was thanked for his work in organising and running the successful, with the recently married Victoria Freeman being crowned ‘Tooradin Idol’ for 2009 amidst some enthusiastic, if somewhat erratic, singing.
Among the many highlights was Benny Mantel’s rendition of ‘Man, I feel like a Woman’.
