Sky-high house

The application to build a house on the steep property in Seaview Road, Cockatoo was refused by the Cardinia Council on Monday night after concerns were raised in relation to the site’s access and egress, particularly noting the safety issues of the land.
The CFA, as a statutory referral authority, objected to the proposal on the basis it would intensify the risk to life and property, considering the characteristics of the site and the proposed dwelling’s design and location.
Due to the CFA’s objection, the council was bound by their response and required to refuse the application.
Councillor Ed Chatwin said it was interesting to note that the CFA did not recognise the planned use of a fire bunker as part of the site’s fire protection plan.
Mayor Bill Pearson agreed, and said that both the CFA and the council were waiting on a directive from both the State and Federal Governments.
