PAKENHAM police will patrol high risk areas of Cardinia Shire during the fire season to deter firebugs.
Senior Sergeant Alan McCarthy said police from Cardinia, Casey and Greater Dandenong would conduct fire patrols in the lead-up to Catastrophic Fire days.
Along with patrols, Sen Sgt McCarthy said it was important that residents contacted police if they saw any suspicious activity.
As part of their role during fire season, Pakenham Police will also manage traffic in and out of the shire on days of Code Red.
“When people activate their fire plans and relocate to another area we are expecting more traffic in the area,” he said.
“People need to think about their own safety and that of other road users in high stress circumstances.”
