Three towns to get fire plans

By Melissa Meehan
THREE towns most at risk this fire season can expect to receive Township Protection Plans over the next week.
Country Fire Authority project officer Phil Craig said after meeting more than 600 residents in Gembrook, Cockatoo and Upper Beaconsfield, the CFA along with a number of other emergency services was able to develop the plans.
He said the plans were made up of three parts: community information, operational and fire prevention.
“The focus of the plans is to provide the community with a far safer area than previously,” Mr Craig said.
“Its important too that all residents are aware of and understand their surrounding environments.”
He said joining a fire guard group would be the best way to do this.
“Everyone in high risk areas needs to be alert,” he said.
All residents in fire risk areas should have received a Prepare.Act.Survive. Bushfire Survival Kit. Those who haven’t can contact their local CFA brigade.
