Christmas is back

AFTER two years of Bah Humbug, Berwick has been transformed into a Christmas wonderland.
Berwick Village Chamber of Commerce President Harry Hutchinson said the chamber was rapt with the decorations installed around the retail centre.
“We are over the moon – from what I understand it is the first time in 25 years that the whole of Berwick has been decorated, not just High Street, and we’ve had a really positive response from customers and retailers,” he said.
“There are nice tinsel-type decorations, quite large.
“Some are older but you wouldn’t think so because they are quite well-kept.
“It’s got a real Christmas feel.”
Mr Hutchinson said the chamber would start adding to the decorations by purchasing them with chamber funds or asking businesses to sponsor a light pole, as is done in some other municipalities.
Edrington Ward Councillor Simon Curtis said he was in support of the idea.
“Harry and I have spoken about working together so any decorations are in a theme and consistent, rather than ad hoc,” he said.
Adding to Berwick’s Christmas charm are regular visits from Santa Claus, who was been walking around the village to pose for happy snaps with children.
Doveton, Hallam and Endeavour Hills were the only towns in The City of Casey to be decorated last Christmas, as arrangements were not made with the electrical power supply company, SP Ausnet.
