6800 cans and counting.
The 4000 Cans for 4Cs campaign met its target – and then some.
Cardinia Council, in partnership with the Star News Group, led the campaign which supported 4Cs Food Bank with a donation of tins of fruit and vegetables and other non-perishable foodstuffs.
4Cs co-ordinator Jeni Mathieson said it was a terrific effort from the community to be able to donate the 6800 cans.
“It is great that the community has really got behind us,” she said.
Her colleague Sue Friend said no one expected that the donations would reach 6800.
“It’s more than I expected,” she said.
“Local schools, businesses and the community as a whole really got behind us.
“It’s our busiest time of year, and the generosity of the community has really made our jobs much easier.”
Mayor Graeme Legge thanked the community for their support.
“This has been a terrific effort by Cardinia Shire residents who have whole-heartedly supported our campaign and helped to make Christmas extra special for local families in need,” Cr Legge said.
Gazette editor Garry Howe said the result was pleasing.
“We have put our hand up to support community campaigns for 100 years,” he said.
“We were happy to be able to help again.”
All donations will be used in hampers and to stock shelves for the New Year.
