Lucky escape

A 23-year-old Emerald woman was lucky to escape injury after rolling her car on Belgrave-Gembrook Road in Selby on Monday morning.
The car hit an embankment before it rolled onto its side and back onto its wheels.
Belgrave Leading Senior Constable Craig Lane said: “Even though the car was a write-off, the driver was very lucky not to end up upside down”.
“She could have been crushed if the car landed on its roof,” he said.
Leading Sen Const Lane said the mix of a dirty surface and rain made the road “very slippery”.
“We’d just like to warn drivers not to get complacent after the last few days of dry weather,” he said.
“When it rains, the oil on the road becomes quite dangerous.”

THIEVES broke into seven Emerald and Avonsleigh properties in one night – between 22 and 23 January.
The spate started in Lakeside Drive in Emerald and continued on Lawsons Road and Main Street, as well as Ronald Road in Avonsleigh.
The same circumstances surrounded each case, prompting Emerald Sergeant Fiona Tolmie to say: “They clearly look like they’ve all been done by the same offenders”.
The burglars opened unlocked doors of cars and garages, stealing valuables and home maintenance equipment.
“People clearly aren’t getting the hint,” Sgt Tolmie said.
“Lock your vehicles, lock your garages, and lock your windows because these people are clearly taking advantage.”
Anyone with information should contact Emerald police on 5968 4422 or Pakenham CIU on 5945 2500.

EMERALD police are investigating the burglary of a Gembrook house on 18 January.
Thieves broke into the Gembrook-Launching Place Road property using a hammer they found in the backyard.
Emerald Sergeant Fiona Tolmie said: “They smashed a hole in the glass rear door, ransacked cupboards and drawers, and stole jewellery as well as a mobile phone and charger”.
“It goes without saying, don’t leave items hanging around that could be used to break in,” she said.
Anyone with any information should call Emerald police on 5968 4422.
