WORK along Healesville-Kooweerup Road (Woori Yallock Road) near Bedford Road in Cockatoo will begin later this month.
The $980,000 project will involve shoulder construction, road surface improvements, and the installation of guard-fence and wire-rope safety barriers along this section of road.
Work will also include improved line marking, new signage and reducing the speed limits from 100km/h to 80 km/h between Kirk Road and Bedford Road, and to 90 km/h north of Bedford Road to north of Shepherd Creek.
VicRoads Metro South East Regional Director Duncan Elliott Elliott said the improvements will help to reduce the number and severity of run-off road crashes in the area.
During construction reduced speed limits and lane closures will be in place to ensure the safety of workers and the community.
“Some delays to travel times are expected, so road users should take this into account when planning their journey,” Mr Elliott said.
“We ask motorists to be alert for changed traffic conditions and observe any signs in place.”
The project is expected to be completed in June this year.
