Teams set for one-off clash

THE Pakenham Warriors and the Cranbourne Cavaliers kick off the Big V basketball season at Cardinia Life on Saturday at 6pm.
This will be the only time the sides will clash this season due to the restructuring of the league and the two teams being in separate conferences.
There is a healthy rivalry between the two sides which has grown over past MMBL seasons and last year’s inaugural season for both teams.
The Warriors hold the bragging rights with their recent win in the MMBL semi final and their winning record in last year’s Big V season where, after losing the first game, they went on to win convincingly in the two following games.
The Cavaliers will go all out to reverse this when they front up, while the Warriors will be doing all they can to maintain their supremacy.
In the warm up to the season, Pakenham have played Mornington Breakers where they were certainly competitive and against division one side LaTrobe, where they were convincing winners with an incomplete line-up.
Cranbourne competed in the Big V tournament and had a solid hit out against other division 2 sides.
The Warriors will have their final hit out in the MMBL grand final tonight when they take on the Caulfield Grammarians at Waverley.
The junior Warriors have completed their grading for the coming season where we have four teams competing in the Metropolitan leagues – the under 12 boys in metro 1 under, the under 18 boys in metro 2, the under 20 girls in metro 2 and the under 18 girls in metro 4.
The remaining nine teams are in regionals.
