THE Cardinia Civic Concert Band will be back at the Pakenham Show this year, giving the community the chance to enjoy beautiful music with a rich history.
They will be performing in front of the pavilion from 10am to 11am.
The band was formed in the late 1800s when they wore military-type uniforms and were led by a drum major.
It then went on to become the Pakenham and District Citizens Brass Band in 1951. In the 1970s, the band became a concert band with the introduction of woodwinds. Another name change to the Pakenham Concert Band matched its new status.
When shire boundaries were re-aligned and the shire became the Cardinia Shire, many organisations were able to seek the patronage of the shire as section 86 committees. The band did that and another name change made it the Cardinia Civic Concert Band.
There is a permanent invitation to all musicians around the district to dust off the instrument and join the band. Rehearsals are normally at 7.30 every Tuesday evening – just walk in. Or you could phone John Wilson on 5997 5669 if you want to know more, or engage the band for a special occasion. The Cardinia Civic Concert Band will be performing at the Pakenham Show on Saturday 19 March.
