DEVON Meadows won the toss and elected to bat against Pakenham at Toomuc Reserve.
They were immediately put under pressure as Dom Paynter had Alex Travaglia caught by Brett Harrop, the score 1/2.
Darren O’Brien joined Daniel Steet and they worked hard to take the score to 37 before Steet was dismissed by Ben Moroney for 17.
Lucas Carroll joined O’Brien and they took the score to 80 before Carroll was run out by a direct hit from Jesse Hayhow for 11.
O’Brien was the next to fall, making the score 4/92, as he was dismissed for 53 by Hayhow. Hayhow then bowled Bill Louden for a duck, and Pakenham were up and about, having Devon Meadows 5/97.
Luke Howard was run out for five, and Peter Zauner was bowled by Ben Moroney for four. But skipper Shane Fillius kept the scoring going at the other end.
When Fillius was dismissed for 24, the score was 8/129. Some late order batting from semi final heroes Chris Benedek and Mick Floyd saw Devon Meadows reach the respectable finals total of 9/159 from 80 overs. Benedek finished 20, and Floyd was not out on 12.
Moroney was a welcome return to the bowling for Pakenham, bowling a long spell to take 3/52 from 32 overs, while Jesse Hayhow bowled well to take 3/56 from 24 overs to put Pakenham in a strong position on the morning of day two.
Pakenham got off to a reasonable start on Sunday, reaching 18 runs before Matt Clayton dismissed Russell Lehman. Ben Moroney found himself back in form, hitting plenty of boundaries on his way to 51 runs before he was bowled by Peter Zauner, the score now 3/76.
Dom Paynter fell without the score changing, and Devon Meadows were in the game at 4/76. Brett Harrop and Sean Gramc came together at the crease, and formed a match-winning partnership, taking the score to 143 before Lucas Carroll trapped Gramc LBW for a well-made 42. Brett Harrop was dimissed shortly after for a well made 27, and Jack Anning and Luke Jackson steered their side past the total, 7 wickets down, giving Pakenham a good win.
