PAKENHAM Tennis Club is on a high heading into Saturday’s final in the Berwick and District Tennis Association and the preliminary final in the West Gippsland Tennis Association.
The senior Section 1 team defeated Tooradin six sets to three to move into the grand final, while the senior men’s team defeated Drouin by a set and will play in the preliminary final.
In the juniors, Section 7 defeated Fountain Gate by five games to move straight into the grand final. Section 11 drew against Cranbourne but lost the tiebreaker and plays in the preliminary final, Section 14 downed Narre Warren five sets to three to move into a preliminary final, while Section 17 lost six sets to two to a strong Fountain Gate team.
Section 18 also progressed to the preliminary final after downing Hallam by 10 games.
Two Pakenham sides confront each other in the Section 1 final of the Wednesday night competition tonight.
Meanwhile, the club held its annual presentation night last Saturday, when the best first year junior was Mataio Hewitt, the best all round performance was from Nick Rourke, the sportsmanship award went to Luke Callander and Liam Clacy was the most improved junior player.
The best team performance was the Junior Section 7 side of Nathan Riddle, Jessica Albon, Corey Horvath, Toby Ross and Tayla Fahey, with Ernie Albon the team manager.
The club person award went to Bill Lace, Andrew Eckersley was the most dedicated and Melissa Shaw-Eckersley won the best guns award.
Paul Osborne and Emily Dillon, who retained their senior club championship titles, were presented with trophies, while Andrew Eckersley and Emily Dillon won the junior club champions titles.
