OLD English sheepdog nicknamed ‘Danny Boy’ recently claimed the world record for the most number of ‘best in shows’ for Old English Sheepdogs.
Danny Boy’s official name is Aust Grand Champion Brinkley Song ‘N’ Dance Man at Perfu and owners Chris and Sue Moore, who own Beaconsfield Berwick Pet Resort, are over the moon about the world record of 65 best in shows.
“The record was held by a dog in America and has been there for about 15 years. It stood at 64 best in shows,” Mr Moore said.
“Danny recently broke that – he’s on 65 now. Winning a best in show is something that’s very hard to achieve, the show he won had 1000 dogs.”
The best in show is the dog that wins the overall prize at the end of the show.
Danny’s wins weren’t limited to just Victoria.
He has achieved best in shows in South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland and has been seen by judges from various countries around the world, making him quite famous.
Besides running their pet resort, Mr and Mrs Moore are sheepdog breeders.
“We imported Danny from England in 2004,” Mr Moore said.
“We wanted him for our breeding program – new bloodstock. It took five years to find him and 10 trips overseas, which is considered a long time.”
Winning might be in the blood, as Danny has also sired 10 champion sheepdogs, one of which is show champion in England.
As for Mr Moore, he hopes Danny will continue to set new records for years to come.
“I think he’ll keep going,” he said.
“We’ll keep showing him and hopefully he’ll be creating new records to come.”
