TWO Pakenham teams, Blue and Red, fought out the section 1 grand final in the night competition of the West Gippsland Tennis Association.
Red got off to a flier, winning the first set 6-1 and was leading the second set 5-3 before Blue staged a great comeback to win the set 7-5.
The third and fourth sets were very close, with Blue holding a steady nerve in both sets, to win 6-4 and 7-6. This meant Blue went into the final two sets leading in sets 3-1 with the games level.
Red had to win both the remaining sets. They won one 6-4, however, Blue won the other set, 6-2. The final score was Pakenham Blue 4 sets, 31 games to Pakenham Red 2 sets 29 games.
The section 2 grand final was between Tooradin and Catani.
The first two sets were extremely close, with Catani winning the first 7-5 and Tooradin the other in a tie-breaker.
The third set saw Tooradin win another tie-breaker. Tooradin also won the fourth 6-4. Similar to the section 1 grand final, this meant Catani had to win both of the final sets to win. Catani won one 6-4, but Tooradin took the other one 6-3. The final score was Tooradin 4 sets 35 games to Catani’s 2 sets 32 games.
