SENIORS
THE Lions played their final practice game against old rivals Drouin last Sunday, before the season starts on 16 April against ROC at home.
The seniors played some good football in patches against the Hawks, and appeared to have control of the game at three-quarter-time. But Drouin stormed home and the Lions snuck in by only four points.
Too often the Lions appeared to “over-finesse” with the ball, causing numerous turnovers rather than getting the ball in quickly to their key forwards.
Kim Jones marked well up forward and kicked five goals and he will be a handy acquisition. Other good players were Luke Walker, Dom Paynter, Frank D’Agostino and Jason Fisher.
Newcomers in Roy, Lehman, Fevleaki, Jones and Williams (back from Kooweerup), should all be good players this season.
There was also a lot to like about the form of Shaun Bell, Nathan Fry and Fisher, who have all come up from the under-18s and appear to have very promising careers ahead.
RESERVES
The Lions had a solid hit-out and ran out comfortable winners. Russell Donaldson coached the team in the absence of Chad Shooter, who was at a coaching seminar.
UNDER 18
The team was quite disappointing in the first half, with too few contributing and trailed by three goals at half-time. The second half saw a big turnaround as every player lifted – and the results came on the scoreboard with the Lions running over the Hawks for a 16-point win.
Jarrod, captain for the day, played a solid first half at fullback and did even better on the ball in the second half. He was ably supported by Adam Jabber, Jake Barclay, Jordan Mueley, Steven Dillon and Locky at full-forward.
