Pave way for fun new festival

LOCALS and visitors alike noted the Emerald Winterfest on their calendar every year as a must-do activity.
All were sad to see the Winterfest finish several years ago. But a new but vibrant event with a fresh community focus has taken its place.
The Emerald FunFest is back with a vengeance after hail washed it away last year.
Emerald FunFest on Sunday 10 April is the closing event for the Performing and Visual Arts in Emerald (PAVE) Festival which begins on Wednesday 6 April and is a great family school holiday activity.
The familiar is mixed with the exciting and new. Plenty of free entertainment and diverse foods and activities ensure there is something for everyone.
A smashing art creation activity will entertain young adults, while the free kids’ activities include face painting, candle making, Super Weirdo, Tubby the Robot, and Bec’s arts and craft activities.
There are great market stalls, show bags and local business involved in the fun.
Pony rides, laser skirmish, rock climbing and carnival rides will attract kids of all ages.
Adults can relax and enjoy local wine producers’ top drops in a tent featuring entertainment from jazz bands, and demonstrations and samples. Within walking distance will be various literary events and performances by Dandenong Ranges Orchestra and the Ambulance Auxiliary Pipe Band and performances every hour on the 3MDR outside broadcast stage.
A photography exhibition and art show are just around the corner.
FunFest has a SteamPunk edge this year. SteamPunk is a new fashion and interest movement celebrating the steam age.
Penny Farthing demonstrations, steam engine displays, steam punk stalls, period-costumed people and a special Puffing Billy trip are among the fun.
Vintage machinery, ambulances and activities at Puffing Billy will complement the SteamPunk theme.
