THREE generations of the McQualter family – Ev, Jason and Nicholas – were among 62 members, staff and friends who attended the Pakenham Golf Club’s annual trip to Tocumwal.
Jason, along with Rob Morley, was an organiser of the weekend, of which many played golf, others went sightseeing and others caught up on sleep – like the two ladies who didn’t venture out until golfers had returned from their 18 holes.
Up for grabs was the ‘Macca’ McQualter trophy, in memory of Graeme McQualter, a life-member at Pakenham. Other life-members make the trophy available.
Doug Amos, with 76 points, was the winner of the men’s shield, ahead of Graeme Boyd and Theo Van Roy, on 70 points. It was a first trip away for Amos.
Kerri McKenna, with 68 points, came in a point ahead of Sue Menzel to win the shield for the ladies.
In the Saturday round of the trip away, Amos (42) beat Boyd (38), with down-the-line balls going to Ross Brooks, Andrew Villinger, Glenn Davey and James McMaster (35), Scott Milnes and Tym Davey, both 34.
Damien Pintar (second) and Mal McKenna (eighth) were the winners of the nearest-the-pin holes, while another McQualter, Trevor, won his first prize in 25 years of attending annual trips away, by taking out nearest-the-pin on the 15th.
Sue Menzel (43) won the Saturday ladies from Kerri McKenna (38).
NAGA ‘winners’ were Leanne Davey and Stan Williams, while the raffle winners were Andrew Villinger, Dean Jones, Judy Flynn and Glenn Davey.
Di Boyd, 30 points, won the ladies competition on the Sunday on a countback from Kerri McKenna. Nearest-the-pins went to Leanne Davey (second hole), Kerri McKenna (eighth), with Di Boyd winning the 14th and 17th holes.
The men’s Sunday competition went to David Leach (37) from Theo Van Roy (36), on a countback from Rob Nobelius.
Down-the-line balls went to Andrew Villinger 35, Doug Amos and Michael Popof, both 34, Ross Brooks, Tym Davey, Graeme Boyd and Brian Seers, all 33.
Nearest-the-pins went to Adam Milnes (second), Andrew Villinger (14th) and Steven Laing (17th).

Meanwhile on Saturday at home, the club hosted a stableford competition, with Zac Clough coming in with an incredible score of 51 points. Michael Hildebrand won the B Grade with 45 points and Mark Hatton came in with 41 points to win the C Grade..
The nearest-the-pin winners were Adam Williamson (2nd, Phil Tunstall (5th), Heath Barclay (8th), Max Craig (pro-pin 14th), Kevin Booker (16th) and Colin Maclean (second shot on the 6th).
The longest drives saw Nick Sleep the winner of the A Grade with John Nooy taking out the B Grade and Jarrod Leontini the C Grade.
The down-the-line ball winners were David Leek 45, Tony Bertolotti 42, Adam Williamson, Tim Sallai, Ross Stewart, Jason Duggan and Jim Welsh with 41, followed by John Piggott, Ray Leonard, Tomm Cassidy, Peter Dempster and Robert Collins with 40 points.
Gavan Warburton 39, David Wylie 39, Damien Rhyne 39, David Shannon 39, Ron Horne 38, Robert Batten 38, Wayne Lamers 38, John Parker 38, Ross Maclean 38, Fergus O’Gallagher 38, George Wheeler 38, Jarrod Leontini 37 and John Game 37 were the final group of down-the-line winners.
Next week is the April monthly medal and the following week is a 4BBB (four-man) event.
The Easter Cup is coming up. Played over the Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Anzac Day) of Easter, with the best two rounds counting. Bookings are essential for all of these holidays.

Section 1: The section one team ventured up to Yallourn to play against Warragul. The team lost 4/1. Jon Game won his match on the 19th hole and Michael Bainbridge had a close match and just lost on the 19th hole.
Section 2: Trafalgar was the venue for section two and the team had a close win against Traralgon 5/4 and that included two close losses on the 19th hole.
Section 3: The section three team played at Garfield against Warragul and had a great win six matches to three.

There was great excitement among the Sunday players as ‘Joffa’ Jeffrey Le Busque had a great hole-in-one on the 16th hole. The most excited person was Joffa. Keith Unsworth came in with 44 points from Jason Dodd with 41 points.
The down-the-line ball winners were Paul Hendry 37, Jo Kozina 36, Geoffrey Dyker 36, Luke March 36, Steve Barrett 36 and Peter Norman 36.

George Coffey was the winner on a countback from Cliff Pain in the Monday stableford competition. They both came in with 42 points.
The nearest-the-pin winners were Jim Gilluley on the 2nd hole with Warwick Cakebread taking out the 8th hole and 14th going to Daniel Pantorno.

The Wednesday competition was 4BBB ar. The winners were Tony Wynen and Des Kerr with +11 on a countback from Ron Winsall and Ross Brooks.
The down-the-line winners were Dave Lummis/Daniel Shaune +10, Lionel Mahoney/Michael Bainbridge +9, Kevin Wraight/John Piggot +9, Rod Cameron/Bob Dowse +9 and Ron Miller/Bert Burniston +9.
The nearest-the-pin on the 5th hole was won by John Parker with the 8th hole going to Rod Cameron and the 14th hole saw Lionel Mahony.

The twilight winners final for the season was played with Glenn Davey taking out the trophy with 22 points, and the Supa competition winner was Ray Leonard with a total of 173 points for the best eight rounds.
Scott Phillips was the winner of the last twilight competition for the season.
The down-the-line winners were Glenn Davey 22, Chris Watts 21, Doug Amos 21, Sean Henderson 21, Alex Green 21, Ron Silver 20, Geoff Percival 20, David Shannon 19, Don Towan 19, Kerri McKenna 18.

The ladies played stableford on Thursday with the winner of the handicap division 0-36 Kay Jones, and the 37-45 division Adele Mahony with 40 points.
The down-the-lines balls went to Dawn Van Roy 38, Irene Walker 36, Faye Leighton 36, Marg Andrews 35, Yvonne Barrott 35 and Anne Donovan 35. All 35s were paid on a countback.
The nearest-the-pin on the 2nd hole was won by Pauline Tucker and the 8th hole to Anne Donovan. The 14th hole saw Ann Bell the winner.
The ladies monthly medal is being played this week together with the second round of the Silver Spoon and the second round of the Mona McLeod and the first round of the International Bowl. It is also the qualifying round for the Captain’s Knockout.
