THE Herb Thomas Memorial Trust was established in 1979 by the Rotary Clubs of Berwick, Pakenham and Narre Warren in conjunction with the former City of Berwick and the former Shire of Pakenham, to perpetuate the memory of the late Herb Thomas.
Herb was the son of the founder of the Pakenham Gazette, and its editor for many years until the time of his death in 1979.
The great support given to the appeal is indicative of the high esteem in which Herb Thomas was held throughout the area.
In 1992 the Rotary Club of Endeavour Hills became an official supporter of the Trust.
The Trust has established a series of grants that assist graduates and students in media as well as in the many aspects of the printing industry, especially in regional newspapers.
The four Rotary Clubs, the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council continue to support the work of the Trust and annual awards are presented at the Herb Thomas Memorial Trust Awards Presentation Dinner.
This year’s dinner will be held on Tuesday 17 May 2011 at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Lakeview Room, Lakeside Boulevard, Pakenham, and will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Pakenham.
The cost to attend is $35 per person (with drinks available at bar prices).
Members of the public are welcome, and any person wishing to attend the dinner should contact Robyn Sommers at the City of Casey on 9705 5252 by 10 May.
