NAR NAR GOON

A GRADE
THE round-three match against Catani was a fast paced, strong display of netball with only a one-goal lead to Goon in the first break. Goon slowly took control with strong defensive efforts to supply plenty of opportunity. Goon’s pace and determination gave them a seven-goal buffer leading into the last quarter. Catani never lost persistence and drive and managed to slowly close the gap. Goon’s tiredness led to errors, opening up the match. High intensity remained up until the last whistle, with the whistle resulting in a draw.
Nar Nar Goon 43 drew Catani 43.
B GRADE
The match started at a frantic pace with both sides struggling to find consistency. Catani found the post more than Goon and took a one-goal lead at quarter time. Changes made had an instant impact to Goon’s attacking end with Goon heading into the main break leading by eight goals. Further changes had little impact to the Goon’s side with their circle defence shutting down all space in the Catani goal circle. Turnovers aplenty provided Goon goalers plenty of options to score. Goon continued their dominance in the final quarter holding Catani’s goalers to only three goals. A great team display by the Goon, victors by 24.

Nar Nar Goon took 11 girls to the game at Catani this week. Goon took control of the game early. Defenders Sam and Clare played a very tight game and caused a number of turnovers in favour of the Goon. The midcourt fed the goalers well and were rewarded by some accurate goaling. Goon led the first quarter 13 to 2 allowing coaches to make moves to allow four sets of fresh legs to take the court in the second quarter. Once again the Goon players continued to apply strong defensive pressure all over the court, causing Goon to keep Catani to four goals in the second quarter and only two in the third. Vanessa and Shae goaled beautifully all game and Ruby stepped up in goal attack in the final quarter. Gill was very steady in midcourt and played nice and tight on her player.

The girls had an unconventional start and rushed the ball a bit quick down the court and as a result lost control momentarily. A few tactical changes in the second half saw the team fall into a nice rhythm. Girls that weren’t in their usual position stepped up to the challenge and showed plenty of potential. By the third quarter momentum swung out way and the result was a win due to the hard work all the girls put in.

With a week’s break, Goon came out fresh and prepared to improve on the last game. With the return of Ash Coombes adding strength in the goal ring, combining well with the accurate shooting of Anna Robertson, Goon lead narrowly at quarter time. Mel Newman lead the defence end all game, taking many intercepts, combining well with Maddie Andrews, Bec Chippendale and Jade Dortmans. As the game progressed Goon were able to steady, apply greater pressure and control the game with Hollie Keysers, Katie Smith and Tess Collins running out the game through the midcourt to come away with the win.

Goon provided great teamwork, giving a great head start to the game. Midcourts Gracie and Maggie moved very well, giving great opportunities to the goalers Andrea and Keely. Strong defence by Jemima and Aliesha gave many turnovers for Goon. In the third quarter Goon shined with strong passes and defence, which led to their first win.
